Who we are

The Stables Project is an independent, non-profit making Arts and Education initiative based in York. We are affiliated with the Centre for Personalised Education Trust. (Charity No: 1057442).

Our vision is to support young people in becoming creative, confident, self determining adults in the global context of today’s world. We believe strongly in the unique potential of each human being.

What we do

At the Stables Project we work in partnership with young people (14+) helping them to develop their own ideas, passions and interests. Young people are guided through the process of designing and negotiating a full or part time programme of learning, in which they play an active and motivated part.Once ready to take their next steps in life we offer the students advice, encouragement and support. We have close working relationships with Connexions, Future Prospects and a wide range of other local and international contacts.

Art in the Community

The Stables Project runs a wide range of Community Arts projects. In the past these have included stone carving, willow weaving, mosaics, pinhole photography, performance, music and processional sculpture. Please visit our Community Arts section for more details.

Since 2003 The Stables Project have been developing a derelict allotment into an edible garden where we hold workshops and events. Students have callaborated with other community gardening projects like the Lolliplot (a communal edible garden for children with hearing loss). Elements of the land work have been accredited with The National Open College Network. For more information visit eco-studies and community land work page.

We are based in the Bishopthorpe area of York within easy reach of the city centre and railway station.
